In its recent findings about data usage over smartphones, Validas has said that compared to an average 338 megabytes per month data usage of iPhone users, Verizon smartphone users consume 421 megabytes per month. The figure eventually hints out towards the access data usage by Android and Windows Mobile smartphone users. However, compared to Validas pinpointing iPhone with the smartphone running over AT&T network; the analyst firm did not disclose about the smartphones over Verizon network consuming lot of data; leaving Android, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry Phones being the perpetrators for higher data usage. However, clearing the haze, Validas said that these are not BlackBerry phones, it is referring to for the handsets don’t follow the consumption patterns, similar to their iPhone and Android counterparts. Additionally, for BlackBerry handsets using data consumption techniques also led Validas to exclude them. Samsung Omnia II, Verizon LG Fathom, Verizon HTC Imagio, Verizon’s popular Droid series of handsets: Droid, Droid Incredible and Droid X, are the handsets which were hinted out by Validas being the phones to have been consuming more data than iPhone. It is learned that Droid X has proved a popular handset with Verizon to have so far sold handset’s million of units. And, the high data consumption for Droid X can be understood what Jennifer Byrne, Verizon business development executive director, said about the device, we are witnessing “something like 5x the data usage of any other device.” Validas also said that compared to just 1.6 percent of iPhone users consuming more than 2 gigabytes per month, it is the 4 percent Verizon smartphone users who do the same.

Though, for being exclusive carrier of iPhone in US [at least for now], AT&T is currently leading the tally with 71.2 percent of lines with 58.4 percent rise in data usage. The wireless carrier’s mean data usage per user has also risen from 111.9 MB to 149.6 MB compared to Verizon’s mean data usage per user with it currently standing out at 147.2 MB; a sharp rise from earlier 48.2 MB. Verizon’s data usage lines also grew from 33.4 percent to 42.9 percent.
