Well, there has come a report this week which discloses that leading handset makers which include Apple, Google and RIM to were highly interested in palm buyout than anyone else out there. However, it is the HP which finally came out as the winner paying total $1.2 billion for the troubled handset maker. Surprisingly, world’s largest handset maker Nokia was not shown to had any interest in the whole episode. The details which were surfaced on Business Insider via a source known to the matter, also reveals the reasons Apple was interested for Palm stating former to be interested in a range of patents and intellectual property rights, Palm has under its belt. For Google, the reason was given to stop Cupertino, Calif company to acquire those patents but with the thought of Apple not being part of the game, the internet giant stopped itself.
After Apple and Google, it was RIM which was also revealed to had its interests in acquiring Palm but at the end, the BlackBerry maker found it hard to beat HP in the bidding war with it to had first proposed a cash deal of 6 to $7 per share above than what HP initially offered [$4.75]. But later, HP raised its bid to $5 per share while RIM cut it short to $5.50 per share.

Moving on, Lenovo was also identified to had its plans of acquiring Palm, and was looking for a stock-for-stock transactions deal which however got thumb down from Palm with its SEC filing noted that such a deal “would take at least several months longer to close than is customary would involve unacceptable risks.”

Meanwhile, Palm being now HP’s property looks give a big push to HP with its webOS for company to now come up with smartphones, tablets etc. with them all running over the webOS.
