Every single Nokia smartphone built from 2010 will support Near Field communications [NFC]

On Thursday, Nokia’s executive VP for markets Anssi Vanjoki while delivering a keynote presentation in Helsinki said that all the Nokia’s smartphones built in 2010 will come equipped with Near Field Communications [NFC] technology. With NFC, Nokia smartphone users will be able to make payments by waving their handsets near a compatible reader. Though, he did not give any specific info about which Nokia smartphones will have this feature; however on being asked about smartphones to support Single Wire Protocol [SWP], Nokia had earlier used, he explained that smartphones will support both SWP and other secure element formats including MicroSD card. He also indicated towards the possibility of smartphones supporting an embedded element too.

For third party application developers, there will also be made available a set of tools.

The announcement has come at a time when the NFC market was buzzed with rumors about Nokia ending support to near field communication technology, as earlier this year there had come a news about the handset maker canceling plans to kick start production of its highly anticipated 6216 Classic NFC phone.
