In order to help protect Android applications, there was announced a new anti-piracy service by Google. With the licensing system, apps will directly be able to communicate with an Android Market server for them to authenticate the phone being on authorized license or pirated copy. The anti-piracy system which is now available for apps is compatible with Android 1.6 or higher, operates in real time across the network letting status information to quickly pass through to developers. The “sideloading” feature, which most of the Android phones support lets Android users to install an app by just dragging an app [.apk file] onto their device using a USB removing the need for them to visit Android Market to install an app.
